What I've Done
WORK DONE
CLUTCH
This car was sitting since 1987 when I got my hands on it. The clutch was seized to the flywheel so that first thing I did was pull the engine and replace the clutch. this was much easier than the Chevy due to the engine being far lighter and closer to the ground. After replacing the clutch the car ran but it did not run well.
CARBURETOR
This car has one of the worst carburetors known to British Sports Cars. Its called the Zenith Stromberg. This carb has issues with the automatic choke, the vacuum diaphragm, and the idle air controls. This type of carburetor is known to be problematic because of the way is pulls fuel into the engine. A regular carburetor from the 70's used gravity to naturally pull fuel into the engine. The Stromberg uses the vacuum created by the engine to bring fuel in. Rebuilding and tuning this carburetor took many late nights, but once it was done correctly it ran great. I changed to automatic choke for a manual one and by passed the idle air control.
RADIATOR AND GAS TANK
Both these items were destroyed. The gas tank was simple because of it needed was the tank, a new sending unit, and a new fuel pump. The radiator was challenging because the car has automatic fans connected to a heat dependent resistor inserted into the radiator. These fans did not turn on reliably. I fixed this by plugging the resistor spot. I inserted a switch on the dash that could manually activate the electric fans. One of the fans also needed the brushless motor rebuilt which took some time.
